Unbottled Potential – We’re looking for Brewing Apprentices

Calling all beer lovers – we’re seeking two new brewing apprentices to join the team at our state-of-the-art Hare Brewery in Warmley. It’s a dream opportunity to learn the art of brewing from industry experts and kick-start a new career at Bath Ales. What’s more, you don’t need any previous experience to apply.

As a Bath Ales brewing apprentice, you’ll get hands-on in the brewery and enrol on a two-year, level 4 qualification with academic-based training sessions held at Nottingham University. You will learn and develop the skills required to become an established and qualified brewer, covering all aspects of the brewing and packaging process from product development to sourcing raw materials, meeting customers, and beer dispensing.

Bath Ales was one of the first British businesses to launch the brewing apprenticeship course in 2019 – a first of its kind in the UK. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree. We currently have two apprentices in training, Josh Bonner and Fionnbhar Price, who are due to complete the scheme in 2023.

Rob Alder graduated in 2021 and is now a fully qualified member of our brewing team. He recently brewed his own limited-edition cask beer, Ryes Up!, which was available in pubs across the South West.

Speaking about his experience, Rob said: “The support I received on my apprenticeship course was absolutely brilliant. I was able to touch on a wide range of specialisms, really rounding my knowledge and giving me a broad understanding of the brewing process and how a brewery runs.”

George Young, Brewing Director, said: “We’re excited to be opening up applications for our next wave of brewing apprentices. It’s important to us that we continue to offer high-quality training opportunities to people like Rob and nurture the next generation of talent within the beer industry.”

Our HQ, Hare Brewery, has the capacity to produce more than 55,000 brewers’ barrels of beer – over 14.5 million pints – each year. It’s here where we brew a range of much-loved beers including our award-winning flagship brand, Gem amber ale, Monterey pale ale, and Wild Hare gluten-free pale ale.
