When the clock chimed 7pm on Wednesday November 22nd bottles of Bath Ales’ new festive beer were cracked open and sites across the south west.
We gave away more than 300 bottles of Sulis Christmas (5.6% ABV) in Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Truro.
Limited edition Christmas Sulis is a Bock style lager. The warming beer is sweet with hints of biscuit, flapjack and honey.
To help get everyone in the festive spirit, we handed out Christmas hats too.
This year’s Lodge at Bath Christmas Market is being run in association with Framptons, the team behind the city’s acclaimed bar and restaurant. As well as a well-stocked bar, with Bath Ales’ award-winning ales, mulled wine and cider and a food offering is on offer.
Darren James, senior brewer, Bath Ales, said: “Having brewed this beer it was great to join in the celebrations and toast Christmas Sulis at 7pm at the Christmas market locals’ night in Bath.
“For the launch of Christmas Sulis, we drew inspiration from the famous J-Day celebrations in Denmark, when an annual festive brew is launched with much anticipation and celebration. We put our own Bath twist on our version which is inspired by Aqua Sulis, the old Roman name of the city.”
Darren added: “We don’t expect the beer to stay around for long so get it while you can – when it’s gone, it’s gone. We hope to make Sulis Christmas an annual brew and an annual celebration event.”
Christmas Sulis will be available in 330ml bottles. The limited edition beer is available from The Lodge and Bath Ales’ retail stand at the Christmas market for £3 per bottle.
The beer will also be available at select pubs and restaurants across Bath, Bath Ales’ online shop (£19.95 plus delivery for 12 x 330ml bottles) and at its brewery shop in Warmley.
